Pure coincidence

You are not supposed speak about the security information to your bank cards, yet I've wanted to for years. Now I finally can. One of the things you can hardly forget is the pin number to your first ever card, or rather the effort it takes to come up with a mnemonic rule to remember it. Mine was 2941. I cannot quite remember the rule I made up for myself before coming up with the sing-songy "(slow) two (fast) nine-four (slow) one", but it definitely involved the first and the last non-zero numbers and increasing and decreasing duos of number, something based on 2 4 and 9 1.

This is not, however, the reason why I've wanted to write this entry. The reason was the pin number of my second card, issued two years after the first and by another bank. By some coincidence, it ran 7940, "(slow) seven (fast) nine-four (slow) zero" and was a piece of cake to learn after I made sure my eyes were not deceiving me.

Haha neat!

I once forgot my PIN number while shopping at the airport on my way off to a three week holiday in Amsterdam. I pressed the wrong PIN three times in a row, and had my card frozen. It was a shitty way to start a holiday, thankfully I wasn't travelling by myself, though borrowing money from other people the whole time made me feel like a complete loser xD;

Oh, my, that must have sucked!

I've only had PIN problems once, and it was not my fault: they printed it so badly I couldn't decipher it. Had to had the card reissued, but it seemed like such a dumb reason!

I remember mine by the pattern on the keys and strangely when my next card came from a totally different bank the very different numbers made the same pattern anticlockwise a quarter of a turn! : D

Strange but convenient.
