Exhibit A: Home Game - Week 8 - Snake

Where grass is lush and stones heated
By rays of flaring summer sun
There on the rockslide its eyes slitted
Lay King of serpents, mighty Khan.

To him for justice and protection
To him in lowly servitude
There slithered on from all directions
His kinsfolk, close and far removed.

One steamy summer noon before him
Exhausted from its lonely track
A young grass snake was pleading softly
For its companion, human chick.

"Oh, mighty Khan, beloved elder,"
Its whispered words were hissed anon,
"The Boy, it has been bit by Adder,
"He may not live to see next noon.

"Oh, Sire, he is young, and thoughtless
"And playing in the grass this morn
"He tried to speak to Adder's nestlings
"Not harass them as children wont

"He's born to Speak, to serve as middle
"Between his men and all of us
"But yet he can but say so little
"And he needs guidance, and, and trust."

This having said, the snake fell silent
With fear waiting for her doom
For oft to those much less daring
The King his displeasure had made known.

It was a long and heavy silence
That followed this pleading speech
And the snake's head then drooped in grievance
For help her Boy now would not reach.

And then a gravely voice had spoken,
"Thou speakest bravely, little one.
"We have indeed heard of the Speaker
"And news of him has pleased thy Khan.

"From this day onward then, in penance
"For his offence as well as thine
"Thou shalt him guide in ways of serpents
"SO BE IT, WITH THE BLESSING MINE!"

Note: this is a companion piece to my season 7 entry Not of Your World set a couple of years prior to that story, but should read as separate. The Boy is the same.

ConCrit is welcome.

I hope I did not mess up the verb forms in Khan's speech. He wanted to speak that way, and I had to comply.

I really have no idea where the came from in such a form. I guess you may blame my reading of Shakespeare's sonnets.

"guide in ways of serpents" - что бы это значило... Есть повод задуматься...
